Take Part in a Tradition …

The sound of a ringing brass bell can still clearly be heard on a summer morning at 7:30 a.m. in the center of the village of Beach Lake.  It is the “ringing bell” being rung vigorously by a waitress to wake up summer guests at the Central House. The same bell will be rung again by children at 8:00 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 5:30 p.m. to announce breakfast, lunch, and dinner, just as it has been done each summer for a century.

The Central House is one of the original boarding houses located on a parcel of land directly on the waters of Beach Lake owned by early settler George Wells. Established by Charles and Vernie Budd, it is the last remaining “Boarding House” from a list of nearly fifty, which have existed in Berlin Township beginning in 1891. The Central House Family Resort has evolved into a modern, full service resort, offering popular summer vacation packages along with wedding and banquet events. It is currently under the management of the third generation Thumann family. Through the years we have seen many generations of families make Central House an annual vacation destination where they are able to spend quality time together. We invite you to visit us at Beach Lake…..and possibly start you own family tradition.
